Streets of Kathmandu Valley Illustration

This series of illustrations begins where the photographs end, in the streets, alleys, and temple courtyards of Bhaktapur. Each piece is drawn from images I took during a summer visit to the city, translated from photograph into illustration through a process of deliberate reduction. Rather than reproducing the full visual complexity of the scenes, the work strips back to what holds them together: line. The architectural details, the carved wooden lattices, the layered facades, the geometry of brick and stone reveal themselves most honestly through contour and structure. Color is used sparingly, one or two tones at most, not to describe the scene but to give it weight and presence. The result sits somewhere between documentation and abstraction, recognizably Bhaktapur, but seen through a graphic sensibility shaped by years of looking at the city as both a native and a designer.
